Creating an Inspiring Work Space

Desks can be dull, drab places to work. But, you can easily change that and make your space inviting and fun. We partnered with Kate Arends of Wit & Delight to create three stunning looks that bring cubicles from boring to beautiful. Meet Kate

Kate Arends, brand strategist and creative force behind Wit & Delight, has been in the business of design and style since 2009. Kate was thrilled to partner with Scotch™ Brand to create tips and tricks to personalise any office space. Early in her career, Kate was very familiar with a corporate cubicle environment and has plenty of ideas on how to personalise your office space while still balancing form and function.

You can add a sense of style to just about any cubicle, and you can use almost anything for inspiration. For this look, Wit & Delight drew inspiration from the plain blue-grey and white walls, along with the colours of items on the desk — a rustic orange plant pot, light brown headphones, gold paperclips, yellow No. 2 pencils and even a tangerine from the day’s lunch. Using Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, she added blueprints and bold metallic colours for a classic look with a bit of fun and flair. Check out the tips below to bring style and organisation to your own workspace.

1. Use Scotch® Wall-Safe Tape to hang important reminders, lists or schedules to your wall. This tape removes easily and won’t hurt your wall, so you can swap out documents as often as needed.

2. Colour coordinate binders with Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape. Choose from a beautiful and always changing selection of glitter, metallic and print designs.

3. Add a pop of colour or pattern to your desk plants by adding Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape to a planter.
4. Wrap cords with Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape to help you tell them apart and stay organised. Add a bit of the same tape to your device’s corresponding input or output, so you can easily spot which cord goes where.

5. Wrap pencils in Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape to coordinate with colours on or around your desk.

By adding some earth-tone colours, textures and crafted objects, Wit & Delight gave this blank grey cubicle a sophisticated and contemporary feel. She brought in deep green cactus plants, woven fabrics and decorative boxes and planters with pink, brown and copper colour themes. Black and white objects are mixed in for a subtle, yet powerful contrast to the neutral, earthy tones. The tips below give simple ways to add style and colour to your desk.

1. Add greenery around your clock using Scotch® Wall-Safe Tape, and swap it out for a new design as the seasons change.

2. Highlight dates in your planner with Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape to stay organised and look beautiful.

3. Use black Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape and a white marker to create cute black and white labels on journals, boxes, planters and file folders.

You can be practical and modern, and still work in a space that boldly displays your personal sense of style. To balance these two ideals, Wit & Delight created a shipping station and used wall space for a weekly calendar, while incorporating bold motif fabrics with deep brown and red-orange tones throughout. Wood accents, feathers, weavings and plants give the space a bohemian chic feel. Try out the tips below to bring this fresh look to your workspace.

1. Find fun ways to store your Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, like this figurine's extended arm!

2. Add a personal touch to a store-bought banner by using Scotch® Super Glue to attach feathers.
3. Use Post-it® Dry Erase Surface and Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape to create a weekly calendar on your wall.

4. Cover the plastic edge of your cubicle with Scotch® Expressions Tape for a fun pop of pattern.
